"Joyful Awakening" was painted early in the morning. So early that the sun hadn't even come up when I started. I was hosted for the Bucks County Plein Air Event by a wonderful family. Joe, Linda, and their son Davis. They opened their home and their hearts to myself and three other artists. I was able to come home every evening to welcoming individuals and a safe space where I could rest. There was a candle lit on each windowsill guiding me and any other weary traveler in. There was comfort, food, community and a shared love for the area and art. I'm an early riser and absolutely loved the property that I called home for my week in Pennsylvania and could not pass up the opportunity to paint it! I initially chose this scene because the fence that bordered it was glowing pink in the early morning light and each dawn preceding this one had a blue heron and geese waking to the day right here. I set up and painted furiously to catch the feel of the moment. No heron was there this morning. No geese and their little ones walked through my scene, and no fence, no matter how lovely in the first light of day, made it into this painting. I was in paradise! I was awakening each day to a beautiful new dawn of possibilities and no fence could hold me in. No fence could prevent me from going down to the water and beyond it to the trees. Nothing would, or could inhibit my "Joyful Awakening". This painting is not for sale. It was never intended to be for sale. It was created for the sole purpose of sharing my joy with those who shared their home with me. I am grateful for the shelter, the friendship, the joy, and the love that I was shown here. My home away from home.
